More than 30 former employees of the bank SPRON, which was nationalized earlier this year, gathered on Austurvöllur square outside the Icelandic parliament, Althingi, to discuss their situation with the parliament’s trade committee.

SPRON’s liquidation committee has declared that a law amendment is necessary in order to pay the bank’s former employees salaries until the term of notice expires, Fréttabladid reports.
“It went well. We met Álfheidur Ingadóttir, chair of the trade committee, for example, and she promised that this matter would be resolved today at the latest,” said Ólafur Knudsen, the group’s spokesman.
Knudsen said the group intends to wait and see whether these promises will be kept and that they are expecting answers from the trade committee as soon as possible.
