Former Prime Minister Geir Haarde Testified at his own Trial

On Monday the trial over former Prime Minister Geir Haarde commenced. The former PM was on the witness stand all day long. He is said to have been well prepared and answered the questions forcefully according to Station 2.

The trial has been long awaited. It is the first time a politician in Iceland is put on trial for his alleged crimes as a politician. Geir Haarde was Prime Minister in Iceland from 2006 to 2009, first in a coalition with the Progressive Party, then with the Social Democrats. The charges come from the majority of Althingi, including some of his former coalition-partners.

On Tuesday, former Minister of Commerce Björgvin G. Sigurdsson and former Governor of the Central Bank and former PM, Davíd Oddsson, will testify.
