Former President of Iceland Turns 80 Today

Former President of Iceland Vigdís Finnbogadóttir celebrates her 80th birthday today. To mark the occasion, she will receive the honorary title of doctor at the University of Iceland (HÍ) Faculty of Foreign Languages, Literature and Linguistics.

Ásdís R. Magnúsdóttir, the faculty’s president, will lead the ceremony and there will be a performance by the Kársnesskóli school choir, visir.is reports.

Speakers include rector of HÍ Kristín Ingólfsdóttir, professor and former HÍ rector Páll Skúlason, president of the Education faculty Jón Torfi Jónasson, president of the Social Sciences faculty Ástrádur Eysteinsson and director of the Vigdís Finnbogadóttir Institute of Foreign Languages Audur Hauksdóttir.
