Former ICEIDA Director Confesses Embezzlement

Former director of the Mozambique branch of ICEIDA (Iceland International Development Agency) Jóhann Ragnar Pálsson has confessed to embezzlement. A total of 29 charges are being brought against him.

His case was filed in March and he has been charged for having the embezzling of ISK 15 million (USD 127,000, EUR 97,000) during the four years he worked at the agency, reports.

The money was used to purchase, among other items, an outboard motor, a computer for personal use, as well as repair of his personal vehicle.

According to the prosecution, Jóhann tried to cover his tracks with the use of false explanations for the disappearance of funds.

The hearing will be held on Monday.
