Former CEO of Iceland’s Kaupthing Arrested

Former CEO of Icelandic bank Kaupthing Hreidar Már Sigurdsson was arrested after questioning at the Special Prosecutor’s Office today. He will be held by the police while Reykjavík District Court decides whether he should be sentenced to custody.

According to an announcement from the special prosecutor, Sigurdsson is suspected of a number of violations, including embezzlement, violations of the law on the trade of stocks and of the law on limited companies, ruv.is reports.

The Special Prosecutor Ólafur Thór Hauksson bases his investigation on charges from the Financial Supervisory Authority and other documents.
