It was revealed during a meeting with the Icelandic Alþingi parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee yesterday that it is in the authority of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs to lead the dialogue between Iceland and the ESA (the EFTA Surveillance Authority) because of the Icesave dispute, which will now be taken to the EFTA Court.
This was explained by the undersecretaries of the Icelandic Prime Minister’s Office and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs along with a specialist in the affairs of the EFTA Court, who attended the meeting, Fréttablaðið reports.
For some time the Icesave dispute has been the responsibility of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, which will now collaborate with the Ministry for Foreign Affairs on the court case.
The representatives of the opposition’s Independence and Progressive Parties on the Foreign Affairs Committee along with Guðfríður Lilja Grétarsdóttir of the Left-Greens noted at the meeting that Icesave should remain in the authority of the Ministry of Economic Affairs.
