Iceland’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Ingibjörg Sólrún Gísladóttir is expected to return to Iceland at the end of the week from the Karolinska University Hospital in Stockholm where she underwent surgery.
A specimen was taken from a benign brain tumor and part of the tumor was removed. According to an announcement from the Social Democrats, of which Gísladóttir is chairman, the operation was successful, Fréttabladid reports.
Upon return to Iceland, Gísladóttir will be submitted to the Landspítali hospital in Reykjavík where physicians will decide whether further treatment is necessary.
The tumor was discovered while Gísladóttir attended the United Nations General Assembly in New York in September. The minister remained in New York for some time afterwards where she underwent surgery.
