Iceland’s Foreign Minister Ingibjörg Sólrún Gísladóttir underwent surgery at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York on Monday to remove a benign tumor in her head. There were no complications and she is recovering.
It is unclear for how long Gísladóttir will have to stay in the hospital and when she can resume her work, 24 Stundir reports.
President of Iceland Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson said while opening the Althingi parliament on Wednesday that people were sending Gísladóttir warm thoughts and wished her a full and speedy recovery.
The tumor was discovered after Gísladóttir collapsed at the United Nations General Assembly in New York last week.
