Foreign Couple in West Fjords Accident Still in ICU

The foreign tourists, a man and a woman, who were in a car accident on Steingrímsfjarðarheiði in the West Fjords on Sunday evening are still being cared for in the ICU of Landspítali, the national hospital in Reykjavík.

The man is being kept unconscious on a ventilator and the woman’s condition is stable given the circumstances. She will be kept under surveillance in the ICU for the next few days, visir.is.

The driver of the car, an Icelandic man from Ísafjörður who was close to 80 years old, died when the car overturned. The couple, who are in their twenties, were given a ride with him while traveling the country. The accident is under investigation.
