The American band the Foo Fighters visited sleepy fishing village Stokkseyri (pop. just over 500) yesterday and ended the evening with an impromptu concert at the Ghost Bar. Singer and guitarist Dave Grohl and drummer Taylor Hawkins jammed with Jóhann Vignir Vilbergsson and Sigurjón Dan Villhjálmsson, members of the Icelandic rock band Nilfisk. The mood was joyful.
Two years ago while dining at lobster restaurant Við fjöruborðið, the members of the Foo Fighters were led by their ears to a garage blasting with rock music and surprised the teenage musicians inside. The ledgendary visit led to Nilfik warming up for the Foo Fighters during their last visit to Iceland, instantly establishing a place for themselves on the Iceland’s music scene.
The Morgunblaðið reports that a crowd of people watched yesterday’s jam session including an awed string ensable from Wisconsin that had held a concert in Stokkseyri earlier in the day. The American teenagers could hardly believe their eyes.
The Foo Fighters will play in Egilshöll Stadium tonight with Queens of the Stone Age og Mínus.
