Residents of Bergstaðastræti in central Reykjavík are fed up with people driving too fast along their street, which is in a 30 km/h zone.
One resident, actress Vigdís Hrefna Pálsdóttir, has since 2011 placed pots, bags or buckets with flowers in the middle of the street to try to encourage drivers to slow down. “I place them in the middle of the street with plenty of room on either side so that people can drive past,” she said in an interview with visir.is, adding that most people seemed to be happy with her actions but that there are the odd few who run them over.
Vigdís said she will continue to place flowers in the middle of the road, reminding people that the road is not just for cars, until a permanent solution is found to the speed problem.
