Flood Directed from Ring Road 1

Attempts are being made by the Icelandic Road Administration to direct the flood in Skaftá river away from Ring Road 1. A bulldozer is at work by the Eldvatn Bridge, which reopened to traffic at 3:30 this afternoon.

Levees by Eldvatn failed this afternoon, decreasing the pressure on the Eldvatn bridge, which is expected to hold, but, at the same time, putting Ring Road 1 in more danger. The bridge by Kúðafljót is expected to hold as well. Skaftá seems to have crested and the surface of the water by Eldvatn has lowered by 2-3 meters.
