Flights between Akureyri and Copenhagen

By Iceland Review

Estonian Air will launch scheduled flights between Akureyri, North Iceland, and Copenhagen, Denmark, next summer, using an 84-seat Bombardier CR-900 aircraft. The first flight is scheduled in May, 2016, and the airline will be open for bookings as of November.

The news was announced Wednesday on the website of Akureyri municipality.

Flights will likely be scheduled on Saturdays with the airplane deporting from Tallinn in the morning and making a stopover in Copenhagen before continuing to Akureyri, and then taking the same route back, RÚV reports.

Tickets will be sold in cooperation with Icelandic travel agency Trans-Atlantic. Tickets can also be booked on the airline’s website, but the travel agency is to guarantee that a certain number of seats be filled on each plane, as Trans-Atlantic Managing Director Ómar Banine revealed.

The planned flights are not the result of the government’s viability studies of international flights to Akureyri and Egilsstaðir in East Iceland; a task force is to present its findings in early October.
