Five Traffic-Related Deaths in Iceland This Year

death-announcementsA fatal accident occurred between Stödvarfjördur and Breiddalsvík in east Iceland yesterday when a car ran off the highway. The car overturned a few times and the driver, who was alone in the car, was thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene shortly afterwards.

The man, who was 44, was a fisherman, unmarried and had no children. The investigative department of the Eskifjördur police and the Road Accident Investigation Group will investigate the accident, Morgunbladid reports.

So far this year, there have been five traffic-related deaths in Iceland. At the same time last year, the number was three. Overall, eight people died in seven traffic accidents in 2010, down from 17 in 2009.
