Five Hundred Artists at Reykjavík Arts Festival

Approximately 500 artists will be featured at this year’s Reykjavík Arts Festival, May 18 to June 3, as revealed when its program was presented this week.


From last year’s Arts Festival.

Among musicians who will perform during the festival is Spanish singer Buika, who originates from Equatorial Guinea and whose music is a combination of blues, jazz and soul, reports.

Others include French musician Yann Tiersen, British rocker Bryan Ferry and Russian pianist Arcadi Volodos.

A new play by Vesturport’s Gísli Örn Garðarsson and American screenwriter Richard Lagravenese will premiere in Reykjavík City Theater and a 12-hour video work by Icelandic performance artist Ragnar Kjartansson will be screened at the National Theater.

Contemporary visual art from the Nordic and Baltic countries will be emphasized with exhibitions jointly entitled “Sjálfstætt fólk” (“Independent People”). More than 100 artists will participate in the exhibitions in 29 groups.
