Rescue workers have been called out because of a fishing vessel which is drifting close to the shore by Vík í Mýrdal, South Iceland, mbl.is reports. The ship drifts slowly, and the anchor has been dropped.
Police are on the way to the area, and a rescue boat and a pilot are on their way from Vestmannaeyjar islands.
According to mbl.is, the vessel is Icelandic, with a crew of almost 30.
The Icelandic Coast Guard received a call around 9:30 am from an Icelandic fishing vessel, located west of Dyrhólaey. The ship was having an engine problem.
Right away, a helicopter, rescue workers from Vestmannaeyjar islands and from South Iceland, as well as a tugboat were called out. A ship, located in the vicinity, was also called to assist.
The anchor, which was dropped, is holding, and the weather in the area is good.
A ship, capable of pulling the fishing vessel to land, is expected to arrive on location at 10:30 am.
