Fishing catch up in May

By Iceland Review

The total catch of the Icelandic fishing fleet was up 15 per cent in May compared to the same month last year according to a new press release from Statistics Iceland, reports Morgunbladid.

The total catch measured 176 thousand tons compared to 141 thousand tons last year.

Comparing the first five months of 2005 and 2006, however, the catch has declined from just over 1 million tons last year to 652 thousand tons this year. The bulk of the difference is explained by a considerably lower catch of capelin in 2006.
