Fishing and Skiing Hotel to be Built in North Iceland

By Iceland Review

The construction of a more than 1,000 square meter (10,770 square feet) country hotel is set to begin at Fljót, Skagafjörður, North Iceland, over the next few days. Entrepreneur Orri Vigfússon intends to build facilities for heli-skiing as well as trout and salmon fishing.

Construction is set to commence next week. According to Orri, the building might be as large as 1,400 square meters (4,600 square feet); the designs are currently being finalized. The idea is to add to already existing buildings, creating top notch facilities on the one hand for those who wish to fish and on the other hand for those who seek extreme skiing, such as heli-skiing.

The project has been in the works for a year and a half, according to Orri, who for a long time has sold fishing permits to the river Fljótaá. The heli-skiing aspect of the venture will be in collaboration with a foreign company that operates, for example, in the French Alps and in Colorado, U.S.A.

“Many of the regulars there will most likely come to us,” Orri told rúv.is. “The plan is to have everything ready next spring in order to be able to accept the first guests in late March or thereabout.”
