Fishermen Fired in Southeast Iceland

By Iceland Review

Fishing company Skinney-Thinganes in Hornafjördur, southeast Iceland, has given notice to the seven-man crew of the multi-purpose fishing vessel Skinney SF. Some of the fishermen on Erlingur SF and Thór SF also lost their jobs.

The fishermen have one to six months in terms of notice, ruv.is reports.

The crew of Skinney was notified of the fishing company’s decision after the end of the last lobster season in late September. The ship has been anchored in Hornafjördur since then. The two other fishing vessels are still active.

Gunnar Ásgeirsson, chairman of Skinney-Thinganes’ board, refused to comment on the situation yesterday. He is currently in Taiwan attending the launch of two new ships, which his company had constructed there.
