Fisherman dies off Iceland’s eastern coast

A fisherman in his sixties was found dead in the ocean near Kollamúli Cape, between the fjord Vopnafjördur and the bay Héradsflói in east Iceland yesterday after an extensive search.

The fisherman, who lived in Vopnafjördur, had been fishing Wednesday morning. The man did not respond when the Sailing Supervision tried to contact him so a search team of about 100 people was called out to look for him, Fréttabladid reports.

Around midnight on Wednesday his boat was found empty. The man’s body was not discovered until noon the next day. It is unclear how the accident occurred.
