Former chess great Bobby Fischer arrived in Iceland on Thursday night where he was greeted by hundreds of supporters.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = “urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office” />
Fischer’s private jet landed at the Reykjavik airport shortly after 11:00 pm, and Fischer was immediately driven away by an SUV.
Fischer was granted Icelandic citizenship last week, a move undertaken to secure his release from a Japanese prison, where he had been held for nearly nine months.
Despite appearing in a one-on-one interview on Channel 2, and a colourful press conference on Friday where Fischer called the United States the Jew USA, Fischer has kept a low profile, and is said to be relaxing and weighing his options.
