First Speech Synthesis Equipment in Iceland

The first speech synthesis equipment in Iceland, dubbed “Ragga”, began operation this week. The equipment enables users to read SMS messages to recipients.

The user types a text message on Ragga’s website and Ragga then calls the recipient and reads the message to him or her, reports.

According to Thórarinn Stefánsson at the software company Hexia, which developed the equipment, Ragga will be useful for people suffering from dyslexia and others who have difficulties reading text from screen.
