A 64-year-old heat record for the month of March is expected to be broken this weekend with unseasonably warm temperatures around the country.

Meteorologist Einar Sveinbjörnsson predicts temperatures between 10 to 15 °C in the northern and eastern parts. The record from 1948 when a temperature of 18.3°C was measured in the area of Sandur in Aðaldal valley, located Suður-Þingeyjarsýsla county in the Norðurland Eystra region in the northest parts of Iceland, is however not likely to be broken this weekend.
The UK Met Office predicts unseasonably warm temperatures coming in from the UK, where warm weather has prevailed of late, will reach the shores of Iceland in the early hours of Friday, Vísir.is reports.
The early arrival of spring provides but temporary relief to the local population from a long and tiresome winter.
