The first annual festival Reykjavík Midsummer Music will be held in the Harpa concert hall from June 17 to June 19. The festival’s artistic director is the prominent pianist Víkingur Ólafsson, who will play a varied chamber music program with an all-star group of Icelandic musicians.

A preview of the festival will take place on June 15, when the artists will invite the audience to an open rehearsal in Norðurljós hall in Harpa.
Visitors will get a look behind the scenes at preparations for the concert, and the artists will discuss their music, a press release states.
The actual festival starts on June 17, the Icelandic National Day, with “sparkling pieces” by Maurice Ravel together with “dramatic autumn-like tones” from Johannes Brahms.
On June 18 there will be two concerts and on June 19 the festival’s “grand finale” takes place in Harpa’s main concert hall, Eldborg.
A very special guest will be the musical maverick, Megas, who will perform some of his own songs, together with Víkingur Ólafsson on piano and a string quintet.
