First Match Postponed Due to Unready Pitch

As the Icelandic football league season opens, the game between Fylkir and Breiðablik in the first round of the Pepsi Championship should have gone ahead today, but has been postponed.

Thanks to the late spring and unusually cold winter, Fylkir groundskeepers say the pitch is not ready for play.

The soccer match has therefore been postponed until 19.15 this Thursday evening, with the approval of KSÍ, the Icelandic football association, Vísir reports.

There were supposed to be five games today, but there will now be a maximum of four. Akranes play Stjarnan, Fjölnir have ÍBV visiting from the Westman Islands, Víkingur take a trip to Keflavík, and Valur host new premiers league side Leiknir.

The biggest game of the opening round of matches is KR versus FH, and will take place tomorrow evening. Then there will be Fylkir versus Breiðablik on Thursday, if the pitch allows.
