First Icelandic Toboggan Produced

Kaldbakur, the first Icelandic toboggan, has been released. Named after Mt. Kaldbakur in Eyjafjördur, north Iceland, it is specifically designed for adult practitioners in Icelandic conditions and is very resilient—one of the designers even called it unbreakable.

The toboggan was designed for the company Kaldbaksferdir which offers tours to the 1,174-meter high mountain in the winter. People are driven to the top on snowcats and have the option of sliding down on skis, snowboards or toboggans, ruv.is reports.

However, the company’s manager Sigurbjörn Höskuldsson said they had trouble finding toboggans that were strong enough for the rough ride down Kaldbakur’s slope and so they decided to have one custom made.

In addition to being resilient, the Kaldbakur toboggan is also light and can easily be stacked, Höskuldsson said.
