First Icelandic Child of 2014 Born

The first child to be born in Iceland this year arrived at 5:34 am on New Year’s Day, reports. The child, a girl, was born at home, the first time since 2009 that the first child of the year is a homebirth.

The first child born at Landspítali National University Hospital was also a girl and was born at 7:05 am to a Columbian mother and a Scottish father. The girl, who was 15-days overdue, has been given the name Katla, reports.
