First Concert Held at Reykjavík Concert Hall

Although it is still under construction, the first concert was held at the Icelandic National Concert and Conference Center at Reykjavík harbor yesterday. Pianist Víkingur Heidar Ólafsson and the band Hjaltalín performed to an audience of 85.

The 30-minute concert took place in one of the building’s smaller halls. Concert goers were provided with helmets, boots and coveralls for safety reasons, Fréttabladid reports. A glass mantle on the outside of the concert hall is currently being built.

The concert marked the beginning of the Icelandic Music Summer, a series of events organized by Samtónn, a joint copyright organization for authors, performers and producers.

A number of concerts will take place in the coming days and weeks, including a concert by Icelandic rock legend Megas and his backup band Senuthjófarnir in Hljómskálagardurinn public park on Friday.
