First Capelin of the Season Discovered

The first school of capelin this season was discovered off Langanes peninsula in east Iceland early on Monday morning by the crew of capelin fishing ship Faxi RE. The fishermen then found more fish to the north of Langanes.

Captain of Faxi RE Albert Sveinsson told Morgunbladid that the outlook for capelin fishing in the area is similar as in the past few seasons. His crew has taken two specimens and considers the capelin to be of good quality.

Other ships were also searching for capelin this week. Börkur NK discovered a school of capelin about 60 nautical miles off Langanes on Monday evening, but Lundey NS and Árni Fridriksson, a Marine Research Institute research vessel, have not found capelin yet.
