The first cabinet meeting of the new government will be held in the Akureyri Town Hall today. The location was chosen for reasons of equality—a cabinet meeting has never been held outside the capital region or Thingvellir national park before.

According to a request from the civil defense council, no more than four ministers should travel on the same aircraft and therefore the 12 ministers flew to Akureyri in six individual trips, but all of them scheduled flights, Fréttabladid reports.
Although it isn’t every day that a cabinet meeting is held in Akureyri, local chief constable Daníel Gudjónsson said police will not undertake any special measures because of it.
The meeting, which begins at noon, will be followed by a press conference.
