The first answers to the European Union’s questionnaire in connection with Iceland’s membership application have been sent to Brussels, according to Foreign Minister of Iceland Össur Skarphédinsson. A negotiation committee has yet to be appointed.
“We are in the final stages of planning,” Skarphédinsson told Morgunbladid in regard to appointing a committee for Iceland, a chairperson and task forces, adding that the appointments will be announced in the coming days.
“The work on answering the questions has been very successful and cooperation with the administration and interest groups has been good. Reactions have been speedy and the quality of the answers is great,” Skarphédinsson stated.
The EU questionnaire contains 2,500 questions and Iceland’s answers must be received by November 16. The answers will be made public.
