First Annual DesignMarch in Reykjavík

The first annual DesignMarch, organized by the Icelandic Design Center, is currently taking place in Reykjavík, March 26 to 29. The program includes more than 150 events reflecting a wide range of design.

Furniture covers designed by Bryndís Bolladóttir.

“DesignMarch aims to imbue the city with life, with design at every step: vacant shop premises will be filled with Icelandic design; cafés will serve their refreshments in Icelandic crockery; impressive exhibitions and installations will be seen all over town. Not to mention shops outside the city center, exhibitions and open studios,” as stated on the Icelandic Design Center website.

A number of designers from different fields participate in the program, including interior designer Gudrún Atladóttir and textile designer Bryndís Bolladóttir.

Atladóttir will guide visitors through places that she has designed, for example the Ellingsen store on Fiskislód 1, which will display Icelandic products, such as guns and knives, today between 2 pm and 3 pm.

Bolladóttir will have an open house at the Bólstrarinn workshop on Langholtsvegur 82 today between 12 noon and 4 pm where she will present her latest project.

In cooperation with wool processor Frú Lára in Seydisfjördur, which is developing a felting machine specifically for Icelandic wool, Bolladóttir has designed covers for furniture and household equipment.

A series of lectures, film screenings, sight-seeing tours and a seminar will also take place during the DesignMarch.
