First 2016 Presidential Candidate Announced

By Iceland Review

The first official candidate for next year’s presidential elections in Iceland has emerged. Today, Þorgrímur Þráinsson, author and former member of the Icelandic national football team, told Vísir there is a 95 percent chance he will run, regardless of whether President Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson decides to run for a sixth consecutive term.

His announcement was given earlier than he would have liked, he claims, since some people created a Facebook page in his name, where his candidacy was announced and people were encouraged to like the page.

Þorgrímur is a well-known author of books for children and young adults.
