First “Friday Butterfly” Performances Coming Up

Sixteen artistic groups will perform on behalf of the Hitt Húsid youth center every Friday throughout the summer in a series of events entitled “Föstudagsfidrildi”, or “Friday Butterflies”. The first string of shows will take place in downtown Reykjavík on June 10 between 12 and 2 pm.

The program includes a viola and violin duet of Bach and solo flute concert featuring Bach and Debussy in Landakotskirkja church, dancing at Ingólfstorg square, poetry writing in Austurstraeti, techno on Laekjartorg square, a cardboard box castle on Laekjargata, an installation on Vonarstraeti and a performance act on Laugavegur.

The performances are an annual event and this year’s summer program is described as versatile and the projects ambitious.

Visitors to Reykjavík and capital residents can expect to witness events performed by keen young artists that will take place all around the city center this summer, every Friday in the early afternoon.
