Firing of FSA Manager: Time Limit to Object Extended

Last night, the board of the Financial Supervisory Authority (FSA) decided to grant its manager Gunnar Andersen with an extension in which to prepare his case, or until Tuesday evening. Previously the board had asked him to resign, rú reports.

The reasons given are reportedly misleading information Gunnar is said to have divulged in 2001 when answering on behalf of Landsbanki an enquiry from the FSA regarding the bank’s operations abroad.

The chairman of the FSA Aðalsteinn Leifsson finds the extension period to be adequate. The case had been under discussion for a long time, and during that period Gunnar had several chances to issue his claims and comments.

On the other hand, Aðalsteinn pointed out, the board cannot comment on the nature of the case or its communication with Gunnar, as that is confidential.

However, Aðalsteinn refuses any allegations that the board is singling out particular individuals or advocating those under investigation.
