Fireworks Show at Iceland Glacial Lagoon

A fireworks show will take place at the Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon at the base Vatnajökull glacier in southeast Iceland next Saturday for the 11th year in a row.

The event is organized by the location’s supervisor and the Hornafjördur search and rescue association to raise funds for the latter.

Last year 1,050 people attended the fireworks show, setting a new record, Morgunbladid reports.

The fireworks light up the surroundings; the floating icebergs will also be lit with candles. Jökulsárlón is among Iceland’s biggest tourist attractions.

The fireworks show might be held in connection with an art event, such as a concert, and it has also been discussed to cooperate with a fireworks artist from abroad and have the fireworks dance to the beat of music.
