Fireworks go on sale throughout Iceland today, reports Morgunbladid. Prices have not gone up since last year but organizers expect an increase in sales this year. According to Fridrik Gunnarsson, a Reykjavík police officer, 315,000 aerial fireworks have been imported for New Year’s Eve, 130,000 torches and about 100,000 “cakes”. This count does not include miscellaneous smaller fireworks such as firecrackers. He says that many importers probably have leftovers from last year since it it allowed to keep inventory for one year.
