Fire in South Iceland, Hundreds Evacuated

Between 300 and 400 people in Selfoss, South Iceland, had to evacuate their homes yesterday while firefighters worked on extinguishing a fire which was raging in the pipe factory Set. A large cloud of toxic smoke extended from the factory.

Around 20 people sought medical attention due to suspicion of smoke inhalation at a crisis center set up in Selfoss yesterday evening. One person was taken to hospital, ruv.is reports.

The fire was likely the caused by arson. The police questioned young men yesterday who are believed to have set fire to the factory. Damages caused to nearby industrial buildings and homes have yet to be investigated.
