Fire in Old Timber House in East Iceland

A fire started in Kaffi Lára in Seyðisfjörður, east Iceland, a timber house, which is one of the oldest in town, between 7 and 8 pm yesterday. The café’s owner, Eyþór Þórisson, was alone in the house at the time and managed to get out on his own.

Eyþór immediately called for the fire brigade, who were able to extinguish the fire in several minutes, Morgunblaðið reports.

According to Einar Bragi Bragason, director of the local music school, the house is not completely ruined after the fire.

“Eyþór is a good friend to his friends and it is clear that Seyðisfjörður residents will repay him his favors through the years by helping him rebuild the café,” Einar said.

According to visir.is, the fire is believed to be the result of an electrical fault.
