Fire in Kópavogur, Man in ICU

A fire broke out in a car repair shop on Smidjuvegur in Kópavogur, a neighboring town of Reykjavík, in the early hours of Sunday morning. Firefighters were informed that a man was inside the workshop and managed to bring him out in time.

The man suffered smoke inhalation and was taken to the ER, later relocated to the ICU where he is still being cared for. The ward’s head physician said his condition is not critical although he couldn’t say for how long he will stay in the ICU, visir.is reports.

The man had apparently decided to get an early start on the day and was working on car repairs when the fire started. The building and the vehicles inside suffered considerable damage in the fire. It has not been reported what the source of the fire was.

Yesterday evening a fire broke out in an empty building owned by Reykjavík City on Bústadarblettur. According to visir.is, a lot of smoke extended from the building but firefighters were quick to extinguish the fire. Nothing was reported on a possible source of the fire.
