Fire in Hafnarfjördur

Pit Stop, a tire storage facility on Raudahella in Hafnarfjördur, a neighboring town of Reykjavík, caught fire around 2 am last night. All available firefighters were called to the scene. Flames extended tens of meters into the air.

Fire marshal Jón Vidar Matthíasson told that for a time they were concerned that the fire would spread to neighboring buildings. However, that was not the case, mainly because of fortunate weather conditions, Matthíasson said.

According to, the fire was under control after about an hour and around 3:30 am some of the firefighters were sent home. The damage caused to the tire storage facility is extensive. No one was harmed in the fire and its origin is unknown.
