Golfers flocked to the golf course at Básar outside Reykjavík yesterday. The weather in the capital area has been mild lately, providing fine conditions for practicing the sport.
Gardar Eyland, managing director of Reykjavík Golf Club, told Morgunbladid that golfers are always excited to go outside into fresh air after all the dinner parties during the holidays.
Eyland said golf is popular in winter if the weather is good; people usually come to the course at lunch or in the afternoon. But more people play golf in summer, he added.
The weather last autumn was not to the liking of golfers, but Eyland said there is a group of pensioners who come every morning to the golf course, no matter what the weather is like, and play nine holes.
The Reykjavík Golf Club is now preparing for the summer; the summer season usually begins in May.
