Final Number of Constitutional Candidates 523

The national returning board convened yesterday to review the candidacies for the upcoming Constitutional Parliament, which will be elected on November 27. A total of 526 valid candidacies were received but three persons withdrew their candidacies.

Of the candidates, 365, or almost 70 percent, are men and 159, or 30 percent, are women, Morgunbladid reports.

Thórhallur Vilhjálmsson, secretary of the national returning board, said it wasn’t verified whether all supporters of each candidate fulfilled the requirements because all candidates handed in lists of more than enough supporters.
