The Icelandic men’s national handball team will play its final game for a place in the World Championships on Sunday. The team will face Former Yugoslavian Republic of Macedonia in Reykjavík and needs a miracle or at least a very good game to move on to the WC’s.
Iceland lost by eight goals, 26 to 34 in the teams’ previous game in Skopje, FYR Macedonia. That means that Iceland has to win by eight goals or more in order to get a ticket to the WC’s. Morgunbladid reports.
Despite the humiliating defeat in Skopje, the team has not given up and is determined to hang on to the chances of a place in the WCs. Ólafur Stefánsson, the captain of the team said that although eight goals sounds like a lot, everything is possible when it comes to handball. Logi Ólafsson, one of the leading men in the teams agrees. “The Macedonians are known for playing badly when not on home ground so we have a good chance of making it”
