Film Industry Generates One Billion for Treasury

Film and television production by foreign film crews in Iceland could generate ISK 900 million (USD 7.4 million, EUR 5.7 million) for the Icelandic treasury this year. The expected revenue from the industry is three times that of last year and has never been higher, ruv.is reports.

The details of the budget were announced by Minister of Finance Oddný G. Harðardóttir in parliament on Tuesday.

Oblivion, Noah and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty are among films that have been shot in Iceland this year. The shooting of scenes for Game of Thrones is also planned for later this year. The crew of the television series was also in Iceland last winter.
