The filling of the Hálslón reservoir, which will feed the controversial Kárahnjúkavirkjun dam in east Iceland, was begun at 9 am this morning. Water is collecting rapidly in the reservoir and is expected to reach a depth of 15 meters in the first four hours. This is reported in all the main media.
Dozens of onlookers are at the site. Ómar Ragnarsson, who has been the among the most vocal protestors of the project, plans to travel by boat along the canyons that will be submerged by the reservoir and film waterfalls and other natural phenomena as they disappear.
