Between 40 and 50 foreign tourists of the close to one million who have visited Iceland so far this year have passed away during their trip, mbl.is reports.
Elín Sigrún Jónsdóttir, lawyer and director of funeral parlor Útfararstofa Kirkjugarðanna, told Morgunblaðið in an interview yesterday that there had been especially many cases last summer.
Elín added that a lot of work is involved in returning the bodies home and contacting the relevant authorities and institutions, such as the police, the Directorate of Health, the District Commissioner, embassies, hospitals, the National Registry, the crematorium, the district physician and doctor, who issues a death certificate in English.
No causes of death were included in the article.
