Fifth Run Iceland Coming up

The fifth off-road 110-km (68-mile) Run Iceland will be held September 2 to 6 with a record 50 people from 15 countries expected to participate. This year’s run starts in Skaftafell, South Iceland, and ends in Kaldidalur, in the highlands, and is split into five stages.

The majority of participants are from abroad but Icelanders are also welcome, stresses Giorgio Codias, one of the organizers, in an interview with Fréttablaðið.

Codias, who is from Italy, has guided tourists in Iceland since 2000, spending around four months of each year here.

This year’s participants are from Italy, Norway, Switzerland, Germany, France, the Czech Republic, Monaco, Israel, the U.S., Canada, the Dominican Republic, Hong Kong, Singapore and Spain. Most participants complete the entire run while others choose to run 3 x 10 km (6.2 mile) sections or shorter sections still.

According to Codias, the adventure trail is open to everyone, both pro athletes and amateurs with the aim being to test oneself in the Icelandic nature.
