After the game, captain of FH Gunnleifur Gunnleifsson raised the Icelandic Championship Cup under the applause of a delighted audience, Fréttablaðið reports.

“The feeling is indescribable and this is the peak of my career,” declared Gunnleifur, who is 37. Another ‘old fox’, Bjarki Gunnlaugsson (39), played the last game of his career on Saturday and was given an honorary switch towards the end of the game.

The ‘golden shoe’ trophy was given to Atli Guðnason, who scored 12 goals in the division this past summer.

“I had set out with two goals this spring: To be a champion and top scorer. I achieved both so I cannot be anything else than satisfied,” he commented.

According to Fréttablaðið, Atli made sporting history by not only becoming top scorer but also the player boasting the most assists since first recorded in the men’s top division 20 years ago.
