Two have lost their lives in traffic this year, a record low number for the first five months of the year since 2001. Police believe increased supervision and publicity about safe driving has caused drivers to be more careful.
“But two fatal accidents are of course two too many,” duty officer at the capital region police traffic department, Baldvin Viggósson, told Fréttabladid.
Many people traveled this past long weekend and there was heavy traffic leading into Reykjavík yesterday evening, but no serious accidents occurred.
